Here at Excel, one of our best qualities is the staff that we hire and train to work with our learn to swim programs as instructors, and pre-competitive and triathlon swim programs as coaches. We make sure that our staff has not only a passion for swimming, but also a passion for teaching and the experience to ensure the quality all families deserve. From teachers in the Capital Region, to competitive swimmers and coaches, we bring on the best staff to ensure the best experience throughout all of our programs.
Coach Thomas is one of the site supervisors here at Excel at both our Albany and Schenectady locations. As a former competitive swimmer, Thomas has over 10 years experience as a swim instructor and is currently working towards his Master’s degree in education at the College of Saint Rose.
Coach Kiersten has been with Excel since September of 2012. As a local teacher, Coach Kiersten received her Master’s Degree in special education at the College of Saint Rose, where she also competed on the varsity swim team for four years, where she is still a school record holder.
Coach Matt is currently a computer science major at Stony Brook University, and teaches for Excel during the summers. As a former swimmer and track athlete, Matt works with children of all ages, and specializes in creating fun atmosphere at lessons with his enthusiasm and positive nature
Coach Nico is currently a Junior at the College of Saint Rose majoring in computer science. Nico is a backstroke specialist for the varsity swim team, and has been teaching swim lessons for over 5 years.
Coach Ryan has over 20 years experience in the sport of competitive swimming, both as a swimmer and coach. As a former national qualifier and All American for the College of Saint Rose, Ryan specializes in working with the triathletes and pre-competitive swimmers at Excel.
Coach JiHo is currently an engineering student at the University of Buffalo, and teaches for Excel during the summer. As a former competitive swimmer, JiHo has a great understanding of all four competitive strokes, and primarily works with Excel’s upper levels.
Coach Trevor is currently a Criminal Justice major at the College of Saint Rose, and is a member of the varsity swim team, specializing in the Freestyle and Butterfly events. Trevor is currently a school record holder in the 500 yd Freestyle, and works primarily with the upper levels at Excel’s
Coach Aly has been teaching swim lessons for Excel since the winter of 2017. She enjoys working with children of all ages, and primarily works at our Albany site.
Coach Ryan has been working with Excel since 2017 as both a swim instructor and coach of our Triathlon and Pre-competitive programs. As a former Backstroke and IM specialist, Coach Ryan does an excellent job breaking down the skills of each stroke, while keeping classes and practices fun and engaging with an enthusiastic teaching style.
Coach Liam has been working with Excel since the Fall of 2015. He has 5 years experience as both a lifeguard and swim instructor in Cape Cod, Massachusetts, and is currently a Criminal Justice major at the College of Saint Rose, and a member of the varsity swim team, specializing in sprint Freestyle and Breaststroke.
Coach Nick has been teaching for Excel Aquatics since the Winter of 2016. Nick is an Eagle Scout, and is currently attending Northeastern University. He primarily works at our Albany location, teaching all levels at Excel.
Coach TJ has been working for Excel since the Spring of 2017, working primarily with our Group 3 and 4 classes in Albany. As a competitive local distance runner, TJ has been around athletics and sports his whole life, and aspires to begin competing in triathlons in the near future.
Coach Nikos is a former standout swimmer in the Capitol District, swimming for both Shaker High School and Clarkson University. He specialized in sprint freestyle, and was a state qualifier and section 2 finalist as a senior in high school.
Coach Roko is currently a student at the College of Saint Rose majoring in psychology, and is a member of the Varsity Swim Team.
